Random Things

1. I have never been baptized.

2. Which is fine, because although I believe in God and many of the events written about in the Bible, I don’t take it as the final word on how things happened. After all, history is written by the winners.

3. I am the youngest of 5.

4. You would not see the 5 of us together and think, oh, siblings.

5. I am the only one of my siblings who is overweight.

6. But I’m also the one who is NOT on any type of cholesterol medicine. And no signs of diabetes.

7. I smoked once when I was about 4 – took Bro2’s cigarette out of the ashtray and puffed and choked. Never tried it again.

8. I had my first drink of beer at 6 or 7, from the same brother. Beer. Hated it.

9. I didn’t drink again until I was 13 – at a friend’s aunt’s house. Whiskey. Hated it.

10. I didn’t drink again until I was 21. Still hated it, but still did it.

11. Back to the religion thing – I did go to the Methodist church as a child.

12. And I was the president of the Youth Group for 2 years running.

13. I had my first kiss in the basement of that church.

14. I loved him all through into high school, until he graduated.

15. He wouldn’t date me because back then I was a size 14 and the other girls were much smaller.

16. Years later, I found out he married someone who looked exactly like me, extra pounds and all.

17. I didn’t go to prom ever.

18. No one asked me to go.

19. I still served on the prom committee and helped do the decorating.

20. Honestly, I don’t think I missed anything.

21. That being said, high school was not a horrible experience for me. I was friends with many people in many cliques – band, cheerleaders, nerds.

22. I was terrified when it came time to graduate and do something else. My life had been so orderly and to get out of that routine scared the bejeezus out of me.

23. I had one best friend and was very upset when (as she was thin and pretty) she started to move in different circles than I did.

24. I was in the National Honor Society and held some sort of office in it – though I can’t remember what….

25. I played trumpet from 4th grade through 12th grade.

26. I hated marching band. But you had to be in marching band to be in symphonic band unless you had some reason not to be – like majorette, cheerleader, flags, or football player.

26. I chose to major in music in college because, well, no one else was. My parents were big on individuality – however, they hated my choice of music. Every day they would ask if I’d chosen a major yet.

27. My major never ever changed from Vocal Performance.

28. I graduated without really being able to read music still.

29. I’m an incredible mimic that way. I would just follow what everyone else did. Learn from cd’s.

30. Finally, when I was several years out of college, my voice teacher taught me how to read music.

31. I can sing in Latin, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian, Swahili (I’m not making it up – it’s pronounced just like it looks), Japanese, Swedish, and oh yeah, English. I can’t speak any of it but English though.

32. I did take 4 years of Spanish, 1 year of German, and 1 year of French. Nope, still just English here. Although, I can understand some of Spanish.

33. I was born bald with blue eyes.

34. My eyes turned green when I was 5.

35. My hair was blonde until I turned about 5, then it started darkening into ash brown with red and blonde highlights.

36. I found my first gray hair at 16.

37. I am now completely gray, so I color my hair. My mom was completely gray at 27, so I knew I would have to color my hair early.

38. I still resent it, but that’s beside the point.

39. I failed my driver’s license test on the first try. It was the maneuverability part – I had a ‘77 Bonneville and you know that they move the cones closer for the actual test.

40. I was so upset I walked home from the test, with my mom driving beside me – Honey do you want to get into the car now? NO.

41. I passed it on the second try – used my brother’s Corsica.

42. I have to date received….7 speeding tickets and 3 parking tickets. Personally, I don’t get upset about those things, as I often know that I’m at fault to begin with.

43. I have no fear when I drive.

44. I actually don’t fear death the way most people do. I don’t believe that this is the end-all, be-all of our existence. No one has gotten out of it alive. I just don’t want to suffer.

45. I believe that I’m only in a race against me. My life is not to be measured up against others. It’s mine. My journey, my path.

46. I believe in psychics.

47. I believe in ghosts. Remind me to tell some of my own experiences on here.

48. I believe that there are miracles.

49. I think that if you don’t have kids, your health insurance should cover your pets.

50. I believe that you have more than one soulmate – some are just friends, some are lovers, some are both.

51. I am not always kind.

52 I am not always the best version of myself.

53. I am incredibly lucky in my friendships.

54. Though, my friends know that there is always a line in the sand with me.

55. It takes a lot to get me upset.

56. It takes a lot to get me upset enough to tell you that I’m upset.

57. You have to get me upset over and over again before I will kick you out of my life. But….I will if you push me that far.

58. I don’t just let a friendship that’s going downhill fade away. I tell you it’s over, so that we’re both on the same page.

59. It’s not for me to be mean, it’s for closure for both of us.

60. I don’t take it that far until every button has been pushed over and over again and we’ve tried to work it out.

61. No one is harder on me than me.

62. I expect perfection out of myself.

63. I expect a lot less from everyone else.

64. I don’t dislike all men for what a few have done to me.

65. I think women have the ability to be just as awful in relationships as men do.

66. I am done being a friend to people who are not a friend to me. What do I mean by that? It’s this – the “friends” that only call when they need to talk. The ones who call when they have nothing to say but are ready to listen to you – those are your true friends.

67. I have never voted in my life. And yes, I have bitched about George W. I suppose most people think I shouldn’t because I didn’t vote, but it’s my one vote against, oh over a million? It wasn’t going to make a difference. I know, I’ll hear it on this one. It’s more that I think the system is so frakked up, I just can’t stand to be part of it.

68. I think that the more walls you put up, you become a prisoner of your own creation. One of the reasons I’m so open and honest on here is that I refuse to be imprisoned by my own thoughts or emotions.

69. I think you can love Carly Simon, but not James Taylor or vice versa.

70. I love to kiss. It’s probably my favorite part of any romantic relationship. Kissing is heaven for me. As long as he’s a good kisser.

71. If he’s not a good kisser….he won’t be good at anything else either. Trust me, I’ve tested this out.

72. I love snuggling and cuddling. I nuzzle into the neck and that’s my happy place.

73. However, if it’s time for sleep, you need to move to your own side of the bed. I get too hot (temperature-wise) and claustrophobic otherwise.

74. I love sex. I love the sensations, the closeness, the textures.

75. And as I’ve said before, if things are not right in the bedroom, they’re not right anywhere. All of your friends who say, we don’t have a sex life but we’re closer than ever…bullshit!!

76. I think it’s a personal choice as to how long you’re in a relationship before you start having sex. Sometimes you just know and sometimes it takes time.

77. I don’t think it’s possible to include others in the bedroom and not damage your one-on-one relationship. That’s just my personal opinion. Granted, I’ve never been open to trying that, either.

78. I grew up in an upper middle-class family.

79. My parents had grown up right after the depression. So, everything that they purchased when they had money was very close to the best of the best.

80. My parents are/were very very good with money. However, that did not pass on to any of us but Bro 1 and Sis 2.

81. Until recently, I have never ever looked at the prices of anything I purchased.

82. For 10 years I would spend $150 every 6 weeks to have my hair cut and colored at an upscale hair salon.

83. However, I now go to Great Clips to get my hair cut and I color my hair myself.

84. For 10 years I would shop at grocery stores like The Hills Market and (later on) Whole Foods.

85. Sometimes I would shop at Giant Eagle or Target for groceries. I do love Target for everything else as well.

86. For the first time last night, I went grocery shopping at Walmart.

87. I finally looked at prices.

88. Yes, I have lived a privileged life, at least money-wise.

89. I am pro-choice. I hope that I don’t ever have to make the choice as to whether I need to end a pregnancy or not, but I don’t feel it’s my right to take that choice away from anyone else. That being said, I don’t agree that it’s an acceptable form of birth control that should be used over and over by the same woman. If you’re looking into having your 3rd or 4th abortion, you need to look at getting yourself fixed or something.

90. I think that we need to fix the US before we try and fix other countries. All of the money that we’re sinking into other countries – we have our own homeless, our own illiterate. If we have actually solved those problems ourselves, then and only then, do we have the right to tell another country that our way is the best.

91. I still toss the idea of having my own children around inside of my head. However, I know that if I kicked the bucket tomorrow, I would still feel as though I had a fulfilling life, even without kids. Why? Everyone would send orange tulips, because they know they were my favorite. My friends would laugh at the things I used to say. There would be a good turnout. These are the things that make me feel accomplished.

92. I am terrified of When Harry Met Sally…syndrome. I am terrified that I am going to be friends with a man for 12 years and then wake up one day and realize that he was the right guy all along. Don’t get me wrong, the outcome is still better than the journey…it’s me being afraid of spending that much time trying to date all of these other men.

93. That being said, I love my guy friends. I really appreciate them. Pixel, Fishstix, Ron, and Mo really are so good to me. I know there’s some email that circulates out there about don’t lose your girl friends, and that is true to some extent. But I think it doesn’t give enough respect to the guy friends you can have and what a great source of support they can be.

94. Believe it or not, I don’t post everything that happens in my life on here. P Some things just don’t warrant that kind of attention and others are still private. So even though I tell you a lot on here, I still keep some things to myself.

95. I’m not a romantic. I would rather have a man who can deal with the tough stuff – the working things out stuff, the staying up all night until we get it worked out stuff, the this is better for us than for me stuff. I have had men who have sent me flowers, named stars after me….None of that matters if you can’t sit down and work things out when your differences come up. Flowers don’t fix those things.

96. That being said, of course I’m not going to turn just because flowers down. But I don’t expect gifts or flowers. The greatest gift I can receive from anyone is their time. I was so lonely as a child, I crave time with the people I love. Don’t get me wrong; I still need my Lawgirl time to recharge my batteries. But I love having friends where we are happy just being in each other’s company – no specific plans, just going with the flow. Time is a gift because it’s irreplaceable.

97. Wait, I do expect flowers one day out of the year – Valentine’s Day. And that’s really just because a.) everyone else is getting them and b.) tulips are in season.

98. I’m a giver more than a receiver. I can’t buy gifts too far ahead of time, because then I want to give them right away, to see the look on a person’s face. I admire the people who can Christmas shop all year long – I can’t. I would be giving all of the presents away early.

99. I am allergic to just about everything. Grass, animal dander (I take medication to keep Wondercatt), penicillin, any form of morphine, some types of blood pressure medicines…I have some asthma. I think eventually I will be allergic to oxygen. Well, I suppose in truth, we all will. Lol.

100. I was born with a heart murmur, underdeveloped lungs, and crooked legs.

101. I remember having to drink barium and have chest X-rays a lot as a child.

102. I also have a memory of having blood draw when I was 4. I wasn’t afraid of it at all and that surprised the nurses. I remember thinking it was purple, not red.

103. I have A- blood.

104. I wore special shoes as a child and should still wear them, but gave them up when I was 8 or so. But, I still believe in comfy shoes.

105. For being 5′10″, I only wear an size 8 1/2 shoe.

106. I had my tonsils out when I was 15 over Christmas break. I couldn’t eat or talk for a week. I lost 9 pounds.

107. I had scarlet fever when I was in 4th grade. I missed a week of school.

108. My body temperature is normally 97 degrees.

109. If I don’t get enough sleep, I will run a temperature.

110. When I was 15, the doctors thought I had leukemia. My mom was a nurse so I looked up the symptoms. I had 12 of 16. But the tests all came back negative.

111. When I was 19, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries. It is unlikely I will be able to have kids.

112. I was upset at first, but I got over it.

113. I have holes in both corneas. In my right eye, Wondercatt sneezed and her mucus went into my eye and caused bacteria to eat its way through my cornea. The other one is from me taking out a contact and it had something on it, so it scratched my cornea. Luckily, neither have disturbed my vision.

114. I know all of the words to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Baby Got Back, and Eminem’s Without Me. Yes, how HOT does that make me?? Lol.

115. As a child, my dream was to be the first woman in the MLB.

116. i haven’t had cable or anything in 9 months now, and I don’t think I am missing much – though I do download some stuff from iTunes. Also, there is nothing to that link between TV and obesity, as I am still overweight.

117. I can watch scary movies even though I live by myself. I’m very good at separating reality and fiction.
